Estate Jewelry Evaluations for Sellers

Estate Jewelry Exchange USA provides private, appointment-only estate jewelry evaluations for individuals, families, and estate representatives who are considering selling jewelry. This service is designed to help review jewelry as part of the buying process, determine whether items fit what we are currently purchasing, and identify whether an offer may be appropriate.

Many clients come to us with inherited jewelry, vintage pieces, antique jewelry, gold, silver, watches, Native jewelry, designer items, costume jewelry, or mixed jewelry collections that have been stored away for years. Some people know exactly what they have, while others are sorting through a family estate and are unsure where to begin.

Our evaluations are intended for clients who are thinking about selling. They are not free curiosity appraisals, insurance appraisals, legal estate valuations, retail replacement reports, or written appraisal documents.

The Purpose of an Estate Jewelry Evaluation

Estate jewelry is often reviewed during important life transitions. This may include settling an estate, helping a parent downsize, handling inherited jewelry, preparing for an estate sale, or deciding what to do with a collection that has been in the family for many years.

The purpose of our evaluation is to look at the jewelry from a buying standpoint. We review the items, consider the overall collection, and determine whether the jewelry may be a fit for what Estate Jewelry Exchange USA is currently buying.

This is different from a formal appraisal. A formal appraisal is usually prepared for insurance, legal, tax, probate, or replacement-value purposes. Our process is focused on potential purchase, resale demand, condition, market interest, and whether the items are something we are able to make an offer on.

Who This Service Is For

This service is best for people who are seriously considering selling estate jewelry, inherited jewelry, or a mixed jewelry collection. It may be helpful if you have a group of items and are not sure which pieces may have resale value, which items are collectible, or whether the collection is something we may be interested in purchasing.

We often work with clients who have jewelry boxes, bags, trays, safes, or estate lots that include many different types of items. A collection may include fine jewelry, vintage jewelry, antique pieces, gold jewelry, sterling silver, costume jewelry, designer pieces, Native jewelry, watches, rings, brooches, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and related small estate items.

Not every item needs to be high-end. Some collections have a few valuable pieces mixed with everyday jewelry. Others have older costume jewelry, silver items, watches, or pieces the family simply does not recognize. We review the group and determine whether the collection fits our current buying needs.

How the Evaluation Process Works

1. Schedule a Private Appointment

All evaluations are scheduled in advance. Clients may bring jewelry to our private office in Orange, California by appointment, or request an on-site estate visit when travel is difficult or when the collection is larger.

2. Bring the Jewelry You Are Considering Selling

You do not need to clean, polish, repair, or separate every item before the appointment. It is often better to bring the jewelry as it is. Boxes, bags, trays, cases, paperwork, receipts, old notes, and original packaging can be helpful, but they are not required.

3. We Review the Collection

During the appointment, we review the jewelry from a buying perspective. We may look at materials, condition, age, style, maker, resale demand, completeness, and the overall nature of the collection. Some items may be considered individually, while others may be reviewed as part of the group.

4. We May Make an Offer

If the items fit what we are currently buying, we may be able to make an offer. Offers are based on the collection, condition, current resale demand, market conditions, and our ability to purchase and resell the items. Some pieces may be declined, and certain items may be referred elsewhere if they are not a fit for our buying needs.

What an Estate Jewelry Evaluation Is Not

Our estate jewelry evaluation is not a formal written appraisal. We do not provide insurance replacement values, probate appraisals, tax valuations, court documents, certified appraisal reports, or retail price estimates for online listings.

We also do not provide casual walk-in pricing or general value opinions for items a client has no intention of selling. The evaluation is part of our buying process and is intended for clients who are considering a possible sale.

There is no obligation to sell, and there is no guarantee that every item or collection will receive an offer. Some jewelry may not fit our current market, condition standards, resale needs, or buying focus.

How to Prepare for a Selling Evaluation

If possible, gather the jewelry together before the appointment. Keep related items together, especially if they came from the same estate or family collection. If you have original boxes, receipts, old appraisals, certificates, tags, or notes from the original owner, bring them with the jewelry.

You do not need to know the metal content, age, brand, or history of every piece. Many clients are unsure what they have. That is one reason a private appointment can be helpful for someone who is deciding whether to sell.

If you have a larger collection or are unable to travel, an on-site estate visit may be available depending on the situation, location, and type of items involved.
